There are a variety of resources available to assist you in our Digital Media Labs.

 

Books and Quick Start Guides

Each lab has a core collection of reference books on the various software products available for in-lab use only. Each lab also has a binder with simple Quick Start Guides for most of the software and hardware products as well as printouts from the various hardware equipment manuals.

The Quick Start Guides are now available online! The guides are in PDF format and require Adobe Acrobat Reader:

Online Training Videos

Lynda.com (In-Library Use Only)- The library has a subscription to Lynda.com, which has over 20,000 training videos on over 300 topics with exercise files included. The entire Adobe Creative Suite and all the iLife applications are covered. Please remember to log out when you are finished.

 

Digital Media Lab Help Appointments

You can make an appointment to receive basic assistance on specific tasks from a librarian in a Digital Media Lab. Appointments are made for up to 1 hour and are available Monday-Friday, 9 am - 5 pm. Due to time and staff constraints, the number of appointments per patron may be limited. Request an appointment in person at the Adult Reference Desk, by telephone at 847-438-3433 ext. 502, or by filling out the form here.

 

Digital Media Lab Help - Outside the Library

Apple Store Workshops
Apple retail stores periodically give free workshops on a variety of topics applicable to the Digital Media Labs, including Getting Started with a Mac, Garage Band, iMovie, and iPhoto.

 

College of Lake County
The College of Lake County offers continuing education classes on many of the Adobe products found in the Digital Media Labs, including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. They offer classes both online and in-person.
