Our Outreach Coordinator and her dedicated volunteers provide this valuable service for patrons who are homebound or have temporary illnesses or conditions which make visiting the library impossible. Patrons may request specific items or materials-musical CDs, DVDs, books on tape etc.-for weekly delivery. Please call Outreach Services staff if you require this service.

Words on Wheels (WOW)
The "Words on Wheels" collections refer to the library materials that are kept at three community sites and are maintained by the Outreach Assistant. Book carts at the Ela Township Senior Center, Lexington Health Care Center, and Midlothian Manor are changed monthly and contain a variety of popular materials including large print best sellers, audio books and paperbacks.

Outreach Visits
Monthly site visits are also part of Outreach Services. Library materials are brought to the following sites for the convenience of the patrons-Queen of Peace, Midlothian Manor, the Keenagers group at St. Francis church, and to the Senior Group at the Ela Township Senior Center. Materials are checked out until the date of the group's next meeting or returned to the library any time prior to the due date.

Senior Book Discussion Group
This group is co-sponsored by Ela Township "55-Plus" and meets the fourth Monday of the month to share opinions and reactions to the month's selection. This is an open group and patrons may join at any time. Books for this group are available in large type, audio, and regular print formats. A list of past titles and upcoming selections is available on the website or by calling the Readers' Services Desk at ext. 120 or Christy Wagner at ext. 140.

Older Adult Periodical Collection
A small selection of large print periodicals and magazines of special interest to older adults (Johns Hopkins Health Newsletters, Kiplinger's, Readers Digest, AARP, Caregiver Magazine and various other retirement publications) are available in the magazine section of the Popular Materials department on the first floor.

World Languages and Services
A collection of various world language materials for adults (Polish, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and Hindi) including fiction, nonfiction, and newspapers, is located on the second floor of the library.

ESL Classes and Conversation Café
Classes for those interested in learning English are offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and evenings and follow a school year type calendar. For specific times and beginning dates please call our Information Desk at 847 438-3433.

A laptop computer with software programs for learning and practicing English is available for ESL students. To reserve the laptop see the Reference staff. Conversation Café is an opportunity for ESL students and others for whom English is a second language to practice their English skills in an informal format. The Café is usually offered once in the fall and again in the spring. For specific dates contact the Information Desk.

ESL Express Cart
"ESL Express" is a mobile collection of English language learning materials which includes tapes, CDs, workbooks, textbooks, and Easy English News. The cart is located on the second floor adjacent to the adult World Language Collection and is often used in the ESL classroom.
