Remote Access Problems
Troubleshooting Tips
- Most of the online databases are accessible remotely. The Library's license
agreements with the online resource providers restrict remote access to
individuals holding a valid Ela Area Public Library card.
- Patrons using personal firewalls such as Norton Personal firewall, Zone Alarm,
and others, may experience difficulties connecting to online databases. If you
have problems, try temporarily turning off your firewall. Because of the wide
variety of firewalls in use, Library staff are unable to provide technical
support related to turning off or configuring firewalls. Please refer to the
documentation that came with your firewall or your firewall's online help.
- You should never be prompted to enter a username and password, only your
library card number. This is usually an indication that your firewall must be
disabled or reconfigured.
- When prompted, enter your library card number without any spaces.
- Cookies must be enabled in your browser settings.
- Set the security setting in your browser to no higher than Medium (Default).
- Do not use a bookmark to access a particular resource later. You must access
databases by clicking on the links located on the Library's web pages.
- If you are experiencing problems accessing a database from a computer in your
office or school, please contact your Computer/IT Department for assistance.
- Please contact us at (847) 438-3433 if you continue to have access problems.
