Responsibilities include:

  • providing courteous and professional customer service to patrons and staff in person and on the phone
  • performing duties of checking in and out library materials including Interlibrary loans
  • assisting patrons with self checkouts, feeding all book drop items through the sorter, and emptying bins and putting items on appropriate carts
  • checking for missing or damaged items
  • maintaining the drive-up holds shelf and processing all in-house and CCS holds for distribution and circulation including pick-list holds
  • preparing and returning all items from other libraries for daily pick-up
  • registering and issuing library cards using District and Lake County Tax Assessor maps and records
  • maintaining patron records keeping all information private and up-to date
  • collecting fines for overdue materials
  • verifying price and collecting payment for lost or damaged items
  • accurately collecting fines and making change for patrons
  • monitoring and answering Circulation questions that come over WebChat
  • identifying and sending damaged items to Technical Services for repair or discard

Requirements
High School diploma or equivalency, previous work experience, computer experience desirable. Spanish, Polish, or Chinese language skills a plus.

  • work long periods at the circulation counter, using a computer terminal and keyboard

  • Performs reference and readers’ advisory at the Children’s Reference Desk.
  • Develops and presents programs for children and families, especially for tweens.

Required Qualifications:

Makerspace and Technology Assistant

Ela Area Public Library District

The Ela Area Public Library is seeking a friendly, creative employee to provide excellent customer service and technology assistance throughout the Library and in our Library’s makerspace, Forge. The makerspace is an open, shared space for all ages and is located adjacent to the Library’s teen space. It includes 3D printers, Silhouette Cameos, a Cricut cutting machine, Arduinos and more. (Posted 7/19/21)

The Makerspace and Technology Assistant will help maintain day-to-day operations of the Library’s makerspace, including completing patron 3D print requests and leading programs as applicable. This position will aid in basic technology assistance on the Library’s first floor and guide patrons as needed in using the space or equipment. The ideal candidate is customer-service focused, organized, and enjoys helping others to use maker technologies to achieve their goals.

During COVID, some services are limited. The job description entails responsibilities during full operation.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service to library patrons of all ages.
  • Promote the use of the makerspace and facilitate ongoing activities.
  • Manage 3D printer queue and perform basic maintenance.
  • Provide technical guidance on a variety of equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutter, sewing machine, and vinyl/paper cutting machine with patrons.
  • Assist patrons with apps and software related to makerspace equipment and activities in the space.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and routine maintenance on technology in the makerspace.
  • Develop and/or lead maker programs and activities.
  • Aid in updating in-house procedure documentation for common tasks.
  • Assist patrons with the use of video games and equipment.
  • Act as makerspace liaison at community events or programs when needed.

Part-Time Reference Librarian

The Ela Area Public Library in Lake Zurich, IL is looking for a Part-Time Reference Librarian to join our forward-thinking Adult Reference Department. The Adult Reference desk provides non-fiction reference and readers’ advisory services and technology assistance. The desk is also responsible for the Library’s Digital Media Labs and VR headsets.

The Part-Time Reference Librarian will provide reference service at a busy reference desk, utilizing a large array of print reference resources, online databases, and the Internet. The position will also be required to perform basic computer troubleshooting and assistance with copiers, printers, MS Office, and the Internet.

Information Desk Assistant

The Ela Area Public Library is seeking a friendly, energetic, and self-motivated applicant with exceptional customer service skills. Our library strives to be a welcoming center for our community and this position is responsible for creating a positive library experience at an extremely busy information desk. Responsibilities include general reference, passport services, reader’s advisory, and technology assistance.   • Provides general reference and reader’s advisory service.
