Information Desk Assistant

Ela Area Public Library District

The Ela Area Public Library is seeking a friendly, energetic, and self-motivated applicant with exceptional customer service skills. Our library strives to be a welcoming center for our community and this position is responsible for creating a positive library experience at an extremely busy information desk. Responsibilities include general reference, passport services, reader’s advisory, and technology assistance. This is a 12-18 hour per week position with a work schedule that requires daytime, evening, and weekend hours. (Posted 5/16/19).

Responsibilities:

  • Provides general reference and reader’s advisory service.
  • Greets and assists patrons, provides informational and directional assistance in person and via phone.
  • Processes passport applications as a certified Passport Agent.
  • Assists patrons with program registration and cancellation.
  • Assists patrons with retrieving equipment from the Forge.
  • Takes applications and accepts payments for the meeting room.
  • Assists patrons with the use of the copier/scanner and performs troubleshooting.
  • Takes voter registrations, if eligible.
  • Attends staff meetings, staff training days, and department meetings.
  • Answers questions about using technology including library apps, mobile devices, the internet, and word processing.
  • Fills in for absent coworkers.

Requirements:
2 years of college, one year of work experience with public interaction and customer service experience required. Library experience preferred. Spanish, Polish, or Chinese language skills a plus.

Knowledge and Skills -
Must have the ability to:

  • Deal with multiple tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • Interact with patrons courteously, skillfully and accurately.
  • Work effectively with co-workers in a collaborative, team-based organization.
  • Learn use of telephone system and maintain standards of phone service.
  • Comfortably use and explain how to use technology.
  • Pay attention to detail.
  • Read small print; carry materials up to 50 pounds; bend, reach and life items up to 20 pounds.

Position Hours: 12-18 hours per week, flexible availability required. Schedule includes daytime, evening, and weekend shifts. Schedule subject to change from week to week.

Pay: $16.44/hr

IT Operations Technician

Ela Area Public Library

The Ela Area Public Library is looking for a customer service and team oriented IT Operations Technician. This position requires excellent communications, creative problem solving and interpersonal skills along with a patient, customer friendly attitude. Under the direction of the IT Department Head, the IT Operations Technician is responsible for reviewing, assigning, and resolving help tickets appropriately as well as providing professional and timely customer service to Library staff and patrons. This position also assists with other IT team members on new projects. The qualified candidate will be comfortable in both Mac/iOS, Windows, and Android based environments and have the ability to work independently while also being a team player in a small Library IT department. The Library has about 170 staff and patron PCs and Macs as well as multiple servers. Availability to work some evenings and weekends. (Posted 4/4/19).

Responsibilities:
1. Manages Library-wide IT Helpdesk:

a. Reviews daily and weekly support requests and performs, delegates, or escalates issues.
b. Ensures that issues are resolved promptly and to staff or patron satisfaction.

2. Provides professional and prompt customer service to all Library staff and patrons.

a. Builds and maintains positive relationships with all Library departments and staff.
b. Provides advice and recommendations to staff about technology-related issues as needed.

3. Proactively assists staff in updating and maintaining technology resources.

a. Helps to plan and install new hardware, software, services, or updates as needed.
b. Performs needed technology/equipment repairs and preventative maintenance.

4. Stays current with both the library and IT industries and learns new skills or technologies as needed.
5. Contributes to monthly and yearly library reports and statistics.
6. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
Certification/degree in technology related field of study or equivalent experience.
Commitment to superior customer service and communication.

Position Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Availability to work some nights and weekends.

Salary: $22.09 per hour with full benefits including four weeks of vacation and participation in IMRF.
