Ela Library Earns 4-Star Library Award From Industry’s Leading Publication
Ela Area Public Library continues to show what it takes to be a star on Library Journal’s latest list of America’s Star Libraries for 2017. The professional library publication announced its national ratings in early December. Star Library status was awarded to just 22 public libraries in Illinois and 259 nationwide.
“Our Board and staff are pleased to again be recognized as a Star Library; it means that many of our visitors find our spaces, materials, and services to be valuable. We will continue to deliver top tier library services that meet our mission to “share the joy of discovery,” said Executive Director Matt Womack.
The prestigious rating places Ela Library in the top 3% of public libraries across the country. Findings are based it on a rating system called the LJ Index of Public Library Service from 2015 per capita statistics from 7,409 libraries. The system looks at five measures of library service per capita: number of checkouts including electronic information and eBooks, library visits, program attendance and public Internet use. To compare libraries only with their peers, the ratings group them by budget range, then assign the top libraries in each category a 3- to 5-star rating based on their overall score.
Library Journal is the oldest and most respected publication covering the library field. Find the full list of LJ Index star-rated libraries and more information at LibraryJournal.com.
