Storywalks

The Children's Department, the Village of Lake Zurich Parks and Recreation Department and the Ancient Oaks Foundation are working together to bring you storywalks in area parks. Enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time! More information is available here.

Virtual Peep-a-palooza

Once again, we’re turning our annual Peep-a-palooza contest into a virtual exhibition! Stop by the library to pick up a package of peeps or create your own out of whatever you have around the house like paper, felt or clay. Email your photos to childrens1@eapl.org by the end of the day Sunday, April 4th to be featured in our Facebook photo gallery. Peeps will be available while supplies last beginning Monday, March 8th. For all ages.

Take Home Activity Kits

Due to high demand, all kits require registration and are limited to Ela Area Library cardholders. Your library card number is required to register. Registration begins Monday, March 1st at 10am. Kits may be picked up curbside or at the Children's Desk between March 13-31st.

At Home Crafternoon 
Get crafty at home! Create your own work of art at home using the supplies provided in your kit. For grades K-5.

Kids in the Kitchen
Do you love to cook? Then you will want a kitchen kit! Each kit will contain some essential chef tools and a surprise recipe to make at home, using your own ingredients. Be sure to let us know how your culinary masterpiece turns out. For ages 7 and up.

Series Squad: Bad Kitty 
Your kit will contain crafts, activities, and other surprises related to the Bad Kitty books by Nick Bruel. For grades K-5.

Science Explorer Boxes
Using the materials and instructions provided along with a few items you already have at home, you will be able to create fun science projects and perform experiments. For ages 3-6 and ages 7-10.

Read and Create: Freight Train
Share this much loved book and then create a train craft together. For ages 1-5.

Art Programs

Art Programs with Terri Murphy
Starting on March 3rd, registrants may pick up a kit containing supplies and the link to the YouTube video needed to complete the project.
Zentangled Animals: Make an animal “fancy” by drawing and inking it with swirly, curly and geometric zentangles.
Video is available: Wed., March 3, 10am – Fri., April 2, 9pm.  Registration is required. For ages 8 and up.
 
Cartooning with Mark Anderson
Get your paper and pencils ready and join Mark on Zoom for these live, interactive cartooning classes.
Draw Your Own Adventure: Begin by drawing your hero, then decide what happens next! We’ll draw based on your suggestions.
10am Sat. Mar. 13, Registration is required. For ages 6 and up.
 
Art Programs with Christine Thornton 
Gather your own supplies and join Christine online. Each class features an instructional video through YouTube and the chance to connect with the teacher and classmates on Facebook.
A link to the video is sent to your email. Registration is required.
Rainbow Forest Paintings: Using watercolors or colored pencils, learn to paint colorful forests in two different styles.
Video is available: Thurs., March 25, 10am – Wed., March 31, 9pm. For ages 8 and up.
How To Draw Cartoon Cats and Dogs: Practice drawing furry friends step-by-step in different poses, showing markings and breeds.
Video is available: Thurs., April 15, 10am – Wed., April 21, 9pm, For ages 8 and up.

Book Match

Books will be selected within two weeks from the date of the registration deadline and put at the drive-up window for pickup. You will be notified when they are ready. Please provide a library card number and a valid email address at time of registration.

Little Kids Book Match
We will select up to five picture books on the theme you select. Coordinating supplemental materials and a sticker will be provided.
Registration is required by Friday, March 12th. For ages 0-5.
 
Kids Book Match
Tell us what you like to read and we’ll make some selections just for you! From easy readers to junior fiction, you choose the categories and we'll select up to 5 books for you to enjoy.
